Classic Horchata

in Drinks

PBS_Horchata_1

A Los Angeles dream is sitting on a curb, eating three tacos on a paper plate with a big styrofoam cup full of sweet horchata. If you move here, it’s something you have to do. Call it an initiation or whatever. I drank horchata for a few years before I even thought to make it myself. I don’t make it often but when I do, it’s worth the wait. For the full recipe and more photos, hope on over to PBS Food.

Nachos with an Egg on Top

Annnnd for more Cinco de Mayo recipes, here are some ideas: Mango and Cilantro Guacamole (hi yes), Queso Fundido con Chorizo, Baja-Style Fish Tacos and Awesome Nachos (because nachos deserve eggs on ‘em).

I must be a bad Californian, because I have never had horchata. On the other hand. I eat more than my fair share of tacos, so maybe it evens. out. :) Definitely must give it a try!

I went and found the recipe on PBS Food and I can’t believe how easy that looks to make. We are in SoCal too and I love horchata but haven’t had it in so long. Can’t wait to try this, thanks!

Love horchata and I started making my own a couple years ago. So easy! Love that description of the LA curb with 3 tacos and styrafoam horchata. I think everyone in SoCal has been there :) pinned

Looks delicious! I love horchata and actually made a “horchata margarita” recipe for my wedding because it was in December and the horchata added a warming touch.

I love your blog and especially your photography. Is there any chance you could develop a dairy-free horchata ice cream recipe? I had a horchata ice cream cone in Seattle and loved it. I am allergic to dairy and would love to make it at home in NJ.

Oh sure. I definitely will. I’m having an Ice Cream Week in late June and I’ll post the recipe then!
