Let’s talk snacks!
You know how all those diets say “eat four-five small meals a day.” Umm…I can’t cook that often. I have a job. I like to see my friends. I don’t have a dishwasher. I have to curl my hair. These are all reasons why I can’t cook five times a day. Sorry, diets.
BUT I do love snacks, especially ones that take five minutes to put together.
WARNING: I have no idea if theses are “healthy,” but I do know they taste good, and are sorta healthy. Or at least I think so.
The first one is Avocado on Toast. Super easy and delicious.
All you’ll need is a half of an avocado, bread lightly toasted, a little crushed red pepper, salt and pepper, dash of olive oil and a squirt of lemon. Done. Delicious.
Second awesome snack of the day. Perfectly boiled egg on a buttered whole wheat english muffin topped with a little salt and pepper. Easy! Fast! Cute!
This is my favorite. I love protein shakes, but I also love my morning coffee. This is hybrid of the two.
I present to you: Coffee Banana Protein Shake.
Some cooled coffee, scoop of whey protein powder, couple ice cubes, dash of vanilla extract and a half of a banana. That simple!
This isn’t a snack, but more of a way to force myself to drink more water. We all need to do this, right?
Just some filtered water with the latest winter citrus: sliced meyer lemon and a tangelo. And cucumber for some added freshness. It’s like the water you get at a spa.
What are you snacking on?

All of these are awesome ideas! I like snacking on a “mini pizza” these days. English muffin, tomato sauce, olives, and parmesan in the toaster oven. Mmmm.
I’m so glad to have found your blog. I did a post about what a snacky person I am a few days ago and I’m so glad to have new ideas now!!
yay, thanks for being here!
Very timely post…trying to drop some lbs in the new year and ALREADY bored with my healthy snack ideas. Thanks!
Cinnamon Graham Crackers topped with cream cheese is my latest snack obsession!
what an amazing idea! i’m so copying you.
whoa! i like.
Nice snack ideas. I have girls who are young and still get pm after school snacks, so apples with peanut butter are a fave now. I love the Trader Joes snack mixes, but don’t get them all the time. I’d love to make my own trail mix or granola with yogurt. I like a handful of pistascios. I love a boiled egg so I am going to try that one and the avocado on toast. I love avocado and only one of my daughters and myself like it. Thanks for posting your snack ideas.
Great ideas. I love the avocado toast idea – looks delish. The water idea is nice too. I totally need to drink more water, maybe this will entice me.
Ooo I love the water idea and I am the WORST at remembering/wanting to drink it. I’m supposed to be hydrating this week to run a half marathon this weekend and I’m failing miserably at it.
I LOVE the idea of ‘cado on toast- wonderful!
Great snack ideas… love the avocado on toast and the boiled egg one! You make them look so cute too
My favorite snack is apple slices with peanut butter, but I’m always looking for new ideas, so thank you!
This spread called Olivada on toast…it’s basically pesto made with canned black olives instead of basil, and walnuts instead of pine nuts. Spread, eat, repeat. Great post idea, I’ll be checking back again for other people’s suggestions!
ahhh yes ive had that. super delish!
I’m into plain, low-fat Greek yogurt with healthy trail mix and honey swirled in. Protein power!
Hachiya persimmon (the kind that has to be soft & squishy) scooped out & mixed into plain organic yoghurt. No sugar needed! Love the water tip!
Yumm!! I love all of these ideas! My go-to “healthy-ish” snack is sliced granny smith apples smeared with chunky peanut butter. I am also a fan of the slice of toast with peanut butter, bananas, and honey
oooo…toast with pb and bananas is my fav!
Can someone tell me how to cook a perfectly boiled egg? I never seem to do it right!
Yes! Hi Jane. There are a few ways to do it but this is the way I do it:
Place eggs in a saucepan and fill with cold tap water, covering the eggs completely. Place over high heat and when it comes to a boil, take it off the heat and cover it for 8 minutes. Perfect eggs (minus the gross black/green ring) every time!
Awesome thanks so much!! I’m doing this tonight. Stamped it.
wow, I was just looking for a way to make something with avocado and toast! Thanks!! Delicious!!

I’m snacking { endlessly } on whole grain english muffins slathered in natural peanut butter with a drizzle of honey. Peanut butter and honey were made for each other!
agreed!
Have to add (because I love it so!)- try buttering a piece of(bakery multigrain type) bread, slicing a clove of garlic in half and then rubbing the garlic (sliced side down)all over the bread. Add sliced avocado on top and enjoy! It’s AMAZING!
love that tip!
awww what a great post to kick off the new year. i love avocado toast! i’m currently snacking on sweet potato chips/fries with any kind of yummy dip and toasty bread smeared with tomatoes. yum yum yum-o
Great snack ideas! I never tried crushed red pepper on avocado on toast and now I must try. If I’m in the mood for a sweet snack, I like chopping up an apple, sprinkle it generously with good cinnamon, add any nuts I have lying around and maybe a few chocolate chips. And pretzels dipped in Nutella, but I can’t even pretend that’s healthy!
Your snacks look great–especially the avocado on toast. There is pretty much no moment in my life in which I wouldn’t kill for an avocado. They are just that delicious. =)
My go-to snacks are: a bowl of stove-popped popcorn. A handful of cereal. A plate of sliced apple and cheddar. Truth be told, I should probably snack more during the day so that I don’t gorge on dinner . . .
i like those snack ideas. one of my favorite sort-of healthy snacks is celery sticks with cashew butter (that really good expensive cashew butter that is only 100% cashews) it’s a protein booster – and healthy “fat”. Also, really like rice crackers with a slice of Gouda cheese. yum.
i’ll take one of each, please!
lately out of sheer laziness i’ve been snacking on nuts and dried fruit. time to step it up with some more fun ideas. i love these.
Avocado on toast idea- GENIUS. It’s so yummy, like green butter. Sometimes i don’t even bother slicing (or when i force the avocado out into mush) just mash on top of toast with salt, pepper and lime- nomnomnomnom. And scrambled eggs on toast is a pretty yummy lazy snack too.
Coffee Banana Protein Shake ? It makes you really full. right ?!

Hurray for snacking. I am so pro-snack it drives some people crazy. A couple of slices of tomato on a toasted english muffin with pepper and salt are great too!
What a great list of 5-minute snacks. The avocado on toast looks wonderful.
I hear you adriana, I mean really WHO has the time to make 5 meals a day?! certainly not me. And give me an avocado on wheat anyday. healthy fats are so d-lish!
I’m right there with ya…my pants are feeling a little snug from the holidays. I’m all about healthy snacks right now! Now if only I could quit my nightly cookie habit…
I had to use up an avocado today, so onto toast it went. Yum! Thanks for the tip about adding pepper flakes.
For the coffee protein shake, try using frozen banana for a creamier, more intense flavour.
I love these ideas! They all look delicious.
Another way I like to eat avocado is with garlic powder on it. So good!
LOVE the coffee banana protein shake. I have a protein shake every day and am getting a bit sick of the powder and milk combo. What a great alternative!
i love your blog!
this is rubbish get some stuff for kids on here!!!!!!
like CAKE AND CRISPS AND COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So glad I came across your blog. I’m so hungry right now and I want nothing more than wheat toast with goat cheese and sliced avocado and fresh ground pepper. Sigh.
