Cute Things 2012! (It’s a Giveaway!)

in Uncategorized

First, thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. You guys are cool! Second, all of the comments were so fun to read. Everyone’s best recent meal were so varied and wonderful – some were at restaurants that I want to try so badly (Saison in San Francisco, Little Serow in DC and AQ in San Francisco), while others described living room picnics and sweet meals their boyfriends made them. And there were a few bowls of cereal in there too, which for the record, I’m really into.

Alright, the random calculator gave me a number. I counted my way through the comments and Ashley is our winner! Here’s her comment: “great giveaway!!! and happy birthday! the last great meal i had was last weekend– my friends and i cooked up butternut squash lasagna, crispy fresh garlic bread, green salad with a lemon-garlic dressing, and for dessert, brown sugar bourbon ice cream with gingersnaps. decadent, but memorable.” Thanks for entering! xoxo}

It’s my birthday!

And on your b-day you can sort of do whatever you want, so today I’ve decided to channel Oprah and throw my own version of her famous “Favorite Things 2012.”

Mine is called “Cute Things 2012″ (if you didn’t read the title of this post).

Oh man and do I have some cute things for you.

Let start off with the bag. My good friend Johnna owns COPPERPEACE. It started out of her small Hollywood apartment, right after we moved from college to Los Angeles. NOW, The Avett Brothers wear her guitar straps in GAP commercials. Crazy and awesome. This bag is pretty adorable stuff. You can wear it as a clutch or as a purse (a detachable strap will be included) AND the leather feels like butter. So beautiful!

(You can check out COPPERPEACE’s online store and catch them on Twitter and Facebook.)

Next up are some super cute colored pencils that look like branches.

How adorable and old-timey ARE you gonna look coloring inside outside the lines holding these things?!

My friends Jenny and Teri came out with a cookbook called Tiny Food Party!

Here are a few snippets from the book.

First, bite-size chicken and waffles. Uhh…YES. PLEASE. YES.

And then little baby taquitos…

Most of the food in this book is all so cute that it kind of makes me wanna punch it. Like, punch the food.

Even if you don’t win it from this giveaway, I urge you to throw down $10 (or you can even pick it up from your library) because this book can get you through the upcoming entertaining season, also known as T-Day and Holiday Party Central.

And lastly, some really cute recipe cards from one of my favorite letterpress companies, EGGPRESS.

Sometimes people ask me for recipes, and while emailing them is definitely more practical and normal, giving them these little cards makes it that much more special and cute.

TO ENTER THIS GIGANTIC AWESOME GIVEAWAY: Leave a comment here on the blog telling me about the last incredible meal you’ve had. That’s it!

The giveaway will end 10/11/12 at Midnight/Pacific.

You can follow me on Twitter and Facebook too, if you like, definitely not a requirement for entering.

My future husband spoiled me for my birthday a few weeks ago and brought me to a farm to table restaurant! The restaurant was just introducing their fall menu and the entire meal was delicious, however the buttnernut squash risotto with spiced pistachios was my favorite.

Pork loin with roasted grapes. New techinque for me. Seriously delicious. Grapes were so rich in flavor. Finished the pan juice with a splash of red wine vinegar. Amazing.

Pork belly over carrot and red cabbage slaw with crispy onions and cornichons. Duck liver pate with candied bacon spread over herbed toast.

Best meal I’ve ever had!

Oh, my gosh, those little colored pencils knock me out. Fantastic idea.

I actually just made a pot of turkey soup on Sunday which really hit the spot as the weather has finally cooled off. I had some nice bok choy I added, some beautiful turkey legs, and then I made sweet potato gnocchi instead of noodles. Mmm.

Happy Birthday!

My last amazing meal was my favorite fall/winter lunch—-creamy tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich (with extra cheese, of course).

My last incredible meal was actually last weekend — Canadian Thanksgiving. On top of the perfectly cooked turkey with two kinds of stuffing, we had lentil loaf, pumpkin pie, apple torte and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I was in a food coma for two days!

Mmm, last night…
Made my husband a rib eye with portabello mushrooms sautéed in a sesame ginger glaze, I had tofu in same glaze with mushrooms, asiago and sun dried tomato ravioli with olive oil and fresh Parmesan, mixed green salad with craisins, Gorgonzola, chick peas and balsamic vinaigrette.
He was a doll and cleaned the garage this weekend, figured it was the least I could do :)

Most recently I had an incredible veggie burger at The Plant in San Francisco, it was just incredible and so creative! As a starter I had apple and fennel gazpacho. Awesome!

The last great meal I had was last week at my mom’s for Canadian Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving for us is in October and we had homemade stuffing, cherry sauce, green beans, turkey and all my moms tiny desserts. She makes everything from scratch and its always the best

The last incredible meal I had was Hawaiian Portuguese sausage (authentic found in a nearby Japanese market), fried eggs, and rice. But it was incredible because my husband, who can only cook eggs and rice, made it for me. And he also did the dishes too. LOVE!

Happy birthday!!

Oh my goodness ARE YOU FLIPPIN’ KIDDING ME?! Off-the-charts adorable.

My last incredible ‘meal’ was on my holiday last week – my first proper holiday since childhood, and first trip ever with my boyfriend. We went to Noosa – a gorgeous beach-y area in Queensland, Australia. We hiked through rain forests. We took a nap in the squishy soft bit where the water laps the sand. We swam with turtles. And, in a fantastic move (if I do say so myself), we ordered an assortment of ice cream flavours from a van parked by the beach, flopped down on the sand, devoured our buffet, and called it breakfast.

The most incredible/memorable/enjoyable/happiest meal of my life is that when I surprise my wife with a delicious special roasted chicken on our 1st anniversary as married couple and she really loves it. <3
