Cute Things 2012! (It’s a Giveaway!)

{WINNER NEWS!!!!

First, thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. You guys are cool! Second, all of the comments were so fun to read. Everyone’s best recent meal were so varied and wonderful – some were at restaurants that I want to try so badly (Saison in San Francisco, Little Serow in DC and AQ in San Francisco), while others described living room picnics and sweet meals their boyfriends made them. And there were a few bowls of cereal in there too, which for the record, I’m really into.

Alright, the random calculator gave me a number. I counted my way through the comments and Ashley is our winner! Here’s her comment: “great giveaway!!! and happy birthday! the last great meal i had was last weekend– my friends and i cooked up butternut squash lasagna, crispy fresh garlic bread, green salad with a lemon-garlic dressing, and for dessert, brown sugar bourbon ice cream with gingersnaps. decadent, but memorable.” Thanks for entering! xoxo}

It’s my birthday!

And on your b-day you can sort of do whatever you want, so today I’ve decided to channel Oprah and throw my own version of her famous “Favorite Things 2012.”

Mine is called “Cute Things 2012″ (if you didn’t read the title of this post).

Oh man and do I have some cute things for you.

Let start off with the bag. My good friend Johnna owns COPPERPEACE. It started out of her small Hollywood apartment, right after we moved from college to Los Angeles. NOW, The Avett Brothers wear her guitar straps in GAP commercials. Crazy and awesome. This bag is pretty adorable stuff. You can wear it as a clutch or as a purse (a detachable strap will be included) AND the leather feels like butter. So beautiful!

(You can check out COPPERPEACE’s online store and catch them on Twitter and Facebook.)

Next up are some super cute colored pencils that look like branches.

How adorable and old-timey ARE you gonna look coloring inside outside the lines holding these things?!

My friends Jenny and Teri came out with a cookbook called Tiny Food Party!

Here are a few snippets from the book.

First, bite-size chicken and waffles. Uhh…YES. PLEASE. YES.

And then little baby taquitos…

Most of the food in this book is all so cute that it kind of makes me wanna punch it. Like, punch the food.

Even if you don’t win it from this giveaway, I urge you to throw down $10 (or you can even pick it up from your library) because this book can get you through the upcoming entertaining season, also known as T-Day and Holiday Party Central.

And lastly, some really cute recipe cards from one of my favorite letterpress companies, EGGPRESS.

Sometimes people ask me for recipes, and while emailing them is definitely more practical and normal, giving them these little cards makes it that much more special and cute.

TO ENTER THIS GIGANTIC AWESOME GIVEAWAY: Leave a comment here on the blog telling me about the last incredible meal you’ve had. That’s it!

The giveaway will end 10/11/12 at Midnight/Pacific.

You can follow me on Twitter and Facebook too, if you like, definitely not a requirement for entering.

GOOD LUCK! I LIKE YOU ALL!

The last incredible meal I had was a fiery Mexican dinner with my hubs. It’s a modern world so we sometimes have to spend months apart, but when we do we always make sure to enjoy a fantastic meal together.

Love you Cute Things! Love your blog!

My last incredible meal was last night. I went to my favorite Jamaican restaurant called “The Breadfruit” and ordered my favorite meal, “Coconut Curry Tofu.” I washed it down with their delicious carrot juice. Nothing is better than “The Breadfruit.”

Happy birthday !

Last incredible meal I had was last Saturday (as I usually only cook on week ends).
It was more of a brunch than a meal, but I still think it qualifies !

As starters I had prepared veggie bites (blanched brocoli, white mushrooms, advocado slices, carrots matchsticks) with a lovely home made French mayonnaise, and a spicy New Orleans dip (sour cream and a punch of Slap you mama spices) ! Then we had some veggie patty (potatos and brocolis, or carots/green peas/cheddar patty) with fresh spinach in a creamy sauce on the side. Some fresh baked baguette sealed the deal. To end that meal we had coffee with peanut butter cookies and a nap !

I had a wonderful Alsatian dinner when I was two weeks ago in Strasbourg (France). Starting with an awesome Flammencucke and afterwards a glorious Choucroute a l’Ancienne.
Now, that was a dinner to remember!

The last incredible meal I had was at a Chinese restaurant tucked away in Manchester’s Chinatown. Two friends who spent a year living in China took us there and ordered a table full of authentic dishes. Sweet and sour chicken that tasted like honey; aubergine cooked in a thick, sweet, sticky sauce with onions and garlic; Chinese BBQ buns and cumin lamb…the list is endless. It’s the kind of meal you set a date in your diary to go back for.

The last incredible meal I had was at a restaurant near my college. It was a simple grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. But being a college student, anything tastes incredible that’s not from the cafeteria!!

I have suffered with an incredibly rare and debilitating bowel/gastrointestinal illness for the last 7 years, since I was 13. Ive had more than 20 operations in this time, ive quite seriously lost count of them all. Because of my illness, I have spent months and months in hospital, most of that time completely unable to eat or drink. I lived all of last year as a Hospital In The Home patient, with a nasal-gastric feeding tube. Since November I have had a PEG feeding tube. Only very recently have I been able to start eating tiny portions of very soft solids, but the most incredible meal Ive had recently was just the other day.

My Grandma, Mum and I (my two heroes and best friends who have been by my side for every terrifying step of my journey thus far) made a simple soup. I can’t have full cream dairy or heavy meals, so it was simply sweet potatoes, carrots, onion and stock, and black pepper (i loove pepper). For desert I made mini meringues, dyed an adorable shade of pink, the perfect mix of crisp on the outside and chewy in the center.

Eating this meal together made me feel normal for the first time in years, sharing the special foods that I can eat AND enjoy was so special. The special, fuzzy feelng you get from sharing a meal with the people you love is something I’ve really missed, I’d almost forgotten how lovely it is, but I look forward to experiencing it in the future time and time again,

The last increadible meal for me was caramelized onion tart at my boyfriend’s birthday party. For onion hater like me, it was increadibly tasty and unexpedted experience! Also that evening I’ve made a slowly roasted lamd with mushroom sauce that dissapeared from plates in a second, so I guess it was quite increadible as well:)

So this weekend I went to my first football game of my entire life (I was kind of bored). And it was incredibly cold. 2 of my girlfriends took me. At halftime, we decided we couldn’t take it anymore, and we scurried to a warm bar to “watch the game on tv” (I had no intention of doing any such thing) and to allow our bodies to thermoregulate. This bar had the warmest, most delicious, spiciest corn chowder I’ve ever had. It warmed me up from my toes to my nose and it was incredibly flavorful and filling to boot. Perfect meal for that exact day and time.

The last fantastic meal I had was on Sunday with friends– we decided to start a Sunday dinner tradition, which is a challenge with a diabetic, a vegetarian, and two regular ole’ dudes at the table. Regardless of what we eat, Sunday dinners are incredible because of the company, the laughter, and the reminder to take time to relax and be with each other… Oh and the food was good, too.

The last incredible meal I had? Well looking at the other comments, I feel like it’s supposed to be something exotic or fancy, but honestly, I made a chicken, white bean, and swiss chard soup about a month ago that I probably can’t recreate, but it was just perfect! Flavors were spot on, texture was great, and it went perfectly with homemade beer bread.

I just recently moved to Phnom Penh where all the food is delicious – but the last incredible meal I ate happened right before I left. It was incredible both in taste and in company. Every so often a big group of my friends go out for a large Korean BBQ dinner, and my first time joining in was for a lovely fare-well meal. We ate a massive display of foods – tapas plates filled with all the fermented, stir-fried, and raw vegetables one can imagine, plates of extra limes, spices, bean sprouts, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, and mint leaves, endless amounts of rice and noodles, and our personal grills on the table so we can cook our own perfectly marinated fish, beef, and chicken. Every time a plate was wiped clean, without asking we received another – a bottomless free-for-all of Korean BBQ. All eaten with Korean beers and the occasional celebratory shot of rice wine. It wasn’t only a meal of incredible food, but a meal of incredible friends, joy, and laughter – the best kind.

Last night I wasn’t feeling good and my dearest friend brought me an amazing chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella cheese and Black Forest ham, them the chicken breast was wrapped with two pices of bacon. Plus, it included a colorful pasta with chunks of fresh mozzarella cheese, sun dried tomatoes, tossed in Italian spices and drizzled with olive oil. She’s a keeper of a friend!

Happy Birthday!

My last incredimeal (yeah, I just made that up) was Sunday night. It was my partner’s birthday and I made him some of his favourites at his request: smoked salmon on cream cheese and toasted german rye rounds to start, followed by fresh herb and garlic roasted lamb, roasted asparagus, and mashed sweet potatoes (I kinda messed those up, though.) Then for dessert, his very favourite, bread and butter pudding, which I made with homemade challah that I baked the day before. He was kinda confused by the look of it, I thought I was just being an American messing up a classic British recipe, but then he admitted he had never had it homemade before and was just used to the kind his mother used to microwave from the supermarket. I’m not sure which he preferred!

My next one will probably be Friday night. A friend is having us over for a dinner party for his birthday and he is a HUGE foodie and great cook, so I’m sure it will be special! (And sometimes things really do taste better when you don’t have to cook them yourself.)

The last incredible meal I’ve had was homemade vegetable soup that I made at home while visiting my parents. It will filled with spinach, snow peas, carrots, celary, cabbage, onion, and tomatoes. It was delicious but made special by enjoying it with family on a rainy, cold day, all while my dog begging me for some too!

the last incredible meal i had was on date night with my super cute boyfriend. we splurged on steak tartar and both of our entrees had lamb of some sort (mine was better because i am the more devoted foodie). but what topped it off wasn’t the wine or the decadent desserts, it was the company. i could eat pizza with him and it’d taste just as good as the five start meal we shared.

I freakin’ LOVE that yellow purse.

My last incredible meal was a filet mignon I cooked at home last week. I got the perfect sear on it and the inside was a juicy medium rare. I had it with a baked potato topped with lots of sour cream. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t get much better than a steak and baked potato.

I also just ate a gluten free carrot cake cupcake… for breakfast. It was pretty incredible. Consider that my runner up entry.

Happy Birthday!!! I was in Portugal a few weeks ago and I randomly ordered something off the menu without knowing what it was. Turns out it was eggs, cod and potatoes. When the waiter told me that I was nervous but oh my god what a delicious combination! For dessert we had a traditional Portuguese dessert: pastel de nata. Also delicious, especially still warm from the oven with sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on top.

The last incredible meal was an unexpectedly delicious burger. There were delicious garlic pickles, a giant slice of heirloom tomato, a perfectly cooked burger topped off with a piece of cheese that had been crisped on one side (making it warm and gooey with a slight crusty cheese layer)! Noms!

Between the steak and veggie in the most amazing cream sauce (my husband hates veggies and at them all) and the dessert train of pretzels, lemon cake, and fruit dipped in the white chocolate fountain – I can’t decide. Ps. Happy Birthday!

(This is me trying to be responsible.) So we had our own totally-white-people-Asian-food-dinner last night, and it hit the spot. Even though most things were frozen, it all came together in the end!: General Tsao’s Chicken with pork and vegetable dumplings, white rice (with butter, because….butter), and mukamame…all eaten with a FORK…and it was delicious.

Breakfast tacos. Which is kind of what led me here. I was all feeling-so-good-cause-I-brought-strawberries-for-breakfast-to-the-office. Then bossman walks in with breakfast tacos, aborted said strawberry plan. I just devoured three. That’s right three. And they’re not even high quality tacos (ever heard of Taco Cabana…?) But they’re like a hug when you are stressed and you just need to eat some emotions. Which is kind of what led me here. I’m regretfully full now and so I decided to procrastinate working on a catalog for a sec and see what the cozy kitchen is up to and alas! I’m entering this lovely giveaway. Thanks, CK. Oh boy you’re just like Oprah!

Honestly, last night’s meal wasn’t anything super spectacular, but I thought it was really delicious. We had leftover tourtiere (http://yellebellyboo.blogspot.com/2012/10/tourtiere-french-canadian-meat-pie.html) with baked sweet potatoes (obviously with maple syrup and butter) and leftover roasted brussels sprouts (also covered in maple syrup and maybe some bacon fat, dont’ judge). Finally we had a little sauteed greens (like this: http://yellebellyboo.blogspot.com/2012/07/american-meal.html but with feta instead of goat and no almonds, and kale and spinach instead of swiss chard). Plus I got to spend it with the love of my life – and that makes any meal pretty spectacular.

Last weekend after a long day of yoga teacher training I just went out with some great friends for pizza and beer. The pizza was delicious and the beer was made on the premises. But, honestly it wasn’t the food that made it an incredible meal. It was the laughing so hard I almost blew salami out of my nose. The sound of cheers as we clinked out glasses together. It was sharing a pie with 4 people who make me feel happy and whole. So yeah, the best meal I’ve had lately was eaten off of paper plates, squished into the middle of a long bench, laughing with my friends.

p.s. happy birthday. thanks for always making my day a little brighter.

The last incredible meal that I had was at a nearby restaurant that changes it menu weekly, sometime daily. This last time, we had a bone marrow crostini, which was so deliciously savory like a truffle spread or foie gras. Then we followed it with a pizza from their fire wood oven that had on it arugula, prosciutto, parmesan shavings, AND a farm egg barely cooked in the middle! This pizza is so good, the way to eat it is to dip your slice into the middle egg and it’s almost like a wonderful breakfast!

The last incredible meal I had was a week ago with my boyfriend celebrating our one year anniversary. We went to Sea Change here in Minneapolis and started with a class of Champagne to wet our taste buds. Our first course was from the raw bar: a large sea scallop sliced super thin, served in a watermelon broth and topped with a frozen goats milk yogurt and chilies. The combinations of brine, sweet fruit, tangy cool yogurt, and spicy chilies were indescribable! We paired that with a simply shrimp cocktail with a lovely house made cocktail sauce.

Next course was a little more adventurous. We had some steamed pork buns stuffed with little fried crabs. I loved those Asian style steamed buns and I love crab. Super crunchy. Super yummy. We paired that with braised octopus! It had been slow braised for 8 hours and the best parts were the small tentacles that got kind of crispy and yummy in what tasted kind of like Hosin sauce.

Finally for dinner, he had a trout roulet . . . juicy yummy with crispy skin. I forgot what it was served with because I was involved with my very yummy salmon, served on scrambled eggs, with a butter sauce encapsulation. The encapsulation bust all over the eggs salmon and asparagus too, and there were streaks of leek ash around the plate giving the dish an earthy flavor.

Too full for dessert, but we finished the night with some cocktails at the hotel bar that were a pineapple jalapeno fusion vodka with some kind of fruit juice.

Perfect night! Perfect meal!

My last incredible meal was the night before last – Canadian Thanksgiving. My husband and I had family members over and it was the first time I cooked dinner for 10 people. The food was good (if I may say so myself), yet it was the warmth of having family at the table that made the meal so very special.

Those things are A-DORABLE. The last incredible meal I had…..I made a fancy dinner of broiled mussels with compound butter and other accoutrements a few months ago for my husband, before we had our first baby. He’d been having a terrible few weeks at work and I was supposed to “pick up dinner” that night. He needed home-cooked. I know it’s like tooting my own horn or whatever, but DAYAM those were good mussels!

Being in culinary school, incredible meals tend to come and go at a pretty quick pace. My most memorable of those meals was a Thanksgiving pot luck that my culinary friends and I arranged. All of us had met through school and had come from all over the country. Not everyone felt that they could go home for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, so those of us that stayed in Denver decided to put on our own family-style Thanksgiving. Everyone brought or made a dish in the host’s apartment – ranging from a delicious roasted turkey (made in a dorm kitchen!) to sauteed green beans in lieu of green bean casserole to sweet potato casserole to homemade dinner rolls..that may or may not have been a little hilariously over proofed! There were about twelve of us gathered around a small table top set off the ground by cases of beer – which was absolutely icing on the cake – and just had a blast hanging out, watching football, sharing stories and of course eating delicious food!

My last incredible meal had nothing to do with the food, in fact–I was sick so I couldn’t even taste it! It was a day my husband came home, saw that I was not feeling well–also overcome with homework and decided we should go out to eat instead of me cooking! We all donned our shoes and ate out at my favorite Mexican food place, Luisa’s. :)

One day we were fed up and spontaneously decided to make dinner together after our night classes! We made pasta with pesto, an eggplant and tomato dip, and date & nut scones for dessert. The last GREAT meal I had was just a few days ago when I ate an all beef hot link on a plain old hot dog bun with spinach stuffed into the bun underneath the hotlink. I also slathered some of my husband’s semi-homemade BBQ sauce on for extra oomph! That’s it, it was exciting and great and out of this world for me and baby but not so much for everyone else. :)

We used layers of spagetti squash mixed with pesto, sundried tomato and mozzarella moose sausage (my own creation, yum!), ricotta cheese, butternut squash sauce, and melted mozzarella on top. The last incredible meal I had was a Greek pot lock with some co-worker. One girl friend picked up the Greek salad from our Niko Nikos in Houston tx. I made the moussaka from scratch starting the night before preping the egg plant potatoeas and ground meat in advanced getting it all layered together. That evening I made a fresh bechamel with lots of cinnamon an nutmeg and a egg (to get it extra fluffy when it baked in the oven)! It was so rich and hearty and very worth all the work of baking the egg plant covered in bread crumbs in advanced! Then we had homemade baklava from pecans form another coworkers back yard drizzled with sweet honey! A perfect ending to a wonderful meal together!

About a month ago, my boyfriend flew me up to our favorite city, Minneapolis, for my birthday and took me out to have perfectly pan seared duck with fingerling potatoes. It was drizzled with this delicious dijon/caper sauce that just put it over the top. I finished it off with a slice of triple chocolate cake topped with a toasted marshmallow merengue and a scoop of graham cracker ice cream – a deconstructed s’more! Right after dinner, he whisked me off to watch the sun set over the skyline of the city and popped the question. Definitely a meal I’ll never forget.

The last incredible meal I had was just two weeks ago for my twin sister’s bachelorette party! My sister is a big “Chopped” fan so I planned a dinner at one of Chris Santos’s restaurants, Beauty & Essex, for a group of us. It was small plates but A LOT of food. We had a blast – awesome company, conversation and of course, food and cocktails!

Dinner started out with a delicious kale and apple salad, lobster tacos, and toasts topped with fresh whipped ricotta, fruit and honey, followed by brick pressed chicken over creamy mascarpone polenta and tomatoes and juicy, tender filet mignon with different sauces – the chimichurri was my favorite! The evening ended with a duo of mini cupcakes – red velvet with cream cheese frosting and Guinness cake with Bailey’s frosting – YUM!

My sister and I are going to try to recreate some of the dishes – this weekend is making ricotta from scratch! :)

Though it doesn’t technically constitute a “meal” (at the rate I’m eating, I’ll be full in no time!), I’m currently eating still warm, steaming up the bag, fresh jalapeno bread made with sourdough starter from a local organic bakery/cafe that makes EVERYTHING (“Nutella”, ketchup, jams, etc.) from scratch. This bread is delish!! We also purchase our raw milk there, which is a nice way to lubricate all the bread sliding down my gullet. :)

Hi and Happy Birthday!! What an awesome giveaway; everything looks great! Most weekend meals where my family and I sit down at home are pretty incredible no matter if I cooked or it’s just takeout. But that being said, we went to La Grenouille for my birthday in August and that was a pretty awesome experience all around. : )

My last incredible meal was pizza from a local place called Andolini’s where I live, in Tulsa. Their garlic knots came down straight from heaven, swimming in a shallow pool of melted garlic butter and freshly chopped herbs. The pizza was so delicious, too…perfectly not too thin, not too thick. Even their salad dressing is made in house and I swear I could have taken shots of it like a fine tequila. Crazy good.

The last incredible meal I had was this past Saturday evening. I have recently moved to the Bay Area from Chicago and my parents finally drove up from LA to visit. I was pretty excited to see them, not only because it had been a while but because this is the first home I’ve had that hasn’t been a crappy college apartment, and the first home I’ve made with my boyfriend of four years, and I wanted my parents, very hip and modern in their design sensibilities (my dad is an architect and my mom is an art historian), to like it.

We marinated halibut in minced red bell pepper, pico de gallo, soy sauce, and olive oil for several hours, then my dad and I brought it out to the grill to barbeque it and the last good corn on the cob of the summer. The fish turned out perfectly, flaky, moist and utterly flavorful and the corn got the perfect char on it before we covered it with cilantro and butter. My mother made a salad of fresh micro greens, avocado, tomato, red bell pepper, and queso fresco, light tossed in a homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Top it all off with a bottle or two of good white wine and lovely conversation and it was a smashing success. Not only did they love my apartment, but cooking with them and having our very first tiny dinner party really made the house feel like a home.

The last incredible meal I had was modest but delicious none-the-less! I’m in college so cooking extravagant meals is not really an option for me between endless hours of studying and band practices. However, I took a few minutes a couple of days ago to make black bean burritos. I sauteed black beans with a clove of garlic and half a yellow onion, adding a cup of salsa to the mixture after a minute or so. After simmering the beans for about ten minutes, I mashed the black bean/salsa combo and loaded it on a couple flour tortillas with sour cream, white cheddar, avocado slices, and plenty of hot sauce. ¡Fue delicioso! (:

The last incredible meal I had was in Mendoza, Argentina. After a 24 hour bus ride that included a minor crash and standing in the rain at 4AM, we finally arrived. Memories of our soggy mishap completely disappeared as we biked through wine country with mountain vistas surrounding us. We toured wineries, sampling wine, cheese and chocolate all day long. Finally, we sat down to eat dinner on the lawn of a gorgeous winery. The breeze was cool, the sun was setting, it was divine. Our simple meal consisted of the best steak of my life, delicious mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. Dessert was freshly churned vanilla ice cream drenched in Malbec jam. It was the perfect meal to end a perfect day, truly unforgettable.

The most amazing meal I’ve ever had:
Myself, I’m a vegetarian who moved from sweetly accepting Washington state to the fried, mostly veggie-free state of Alabama. Since moving here eating out has been a near-impossibility. However, There is a place here that has the most amazingly delicious food I’ve ever eaten. Ever. It’s called the Mellow Mushroom, it’s a vegan place in Daphne. They have the most interesting shop I’ve ever been in, but its a good kind of weird. They have “Magic Mushroom Soup”, and let me tell you dear, it’s like a tongue-gasm. They make this with a red-wine and herb broth to DIE for. Because we were so impressed with the appetizer soup, we chose to order a main dish as well. They are the most brilliant people in the history of the universe for adding banana peppers to a pizza ingredient list. The cheese was perfectly melted when they brought it out, like… you know when you pull off the first bite and it stretches and snaps onto your lips perfectly? Yes. Their sauce too… just perfect. These people know what they’re doing. Alabama doesn’t suck so much knowing I live within driving distance of this place.

The last incredible meal I ate had some wonderful Indian flare to it! My good friend’s mom is from Punjab, India and is always cooking up food that she was raised with. When I was over last she made me a delicious dish called Dosa. It was filled with potatoes and of course all those wonderful Indian spices! Dosa is essentially a flat bread that is hand made, rolled out like a pizza, stuffed with the potato filling, and then rolled out again. (I tried recreating it once, not so easy! The stuffing and re-rolling of this flat bread was not as simple as it seemed when I observed Mrs. Singh.) The Dosa was then cooked on a flat top grill just until it was golden brown on either side and warmed through. To make it even better, there was a homemade salsa to go on top! Trying this dish for the first time truly awakened my taste buds. I had never experienced such a rush of flavor in one single bite nor had I ever had traditional Indian food but soon after almost licking my plate clean, it entered into my “favorite dishes” library. Easily one of the most incredible meals I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying!

My last SCRUMPTIOUS meal was my mother’s korean braised beef short ribs. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried any AUTHENTIC korean dishes but they are ALL absolutely delicious words can not describe. and even better when they’re made from scratch with love and care from your own mother.
The braised beef short ribs are marinated in this sweet korean stew that you can mix into your rice alone and eat all by itself even without the short ribs. but if you ARE a meat lover (like me) the short ribs are even more mouth watering. the meat will be falling off the bone, full with juice and flavor…geez, this is making me miss home right now.
time doesn’t even exist when I eat this dish. I will literally INHALE this dish it’s ridiculous.

It was Sunday night. Sunday is my day to cook and I put 4 chicken thighs (seasoned) in the toaster oven and baked them at 400 for about 1 1/2 hours then raised the temp to Broil to crisp the top. I sauteed a little garlic and mixed it with Soy Vay Teryaki sauce. I cooked Barilla Spaghetti Rigati and added it to the teriyaki sauce. I also made steamed vegetarian egg rolls with dipping sauce. Delicious!

Hi, I’m a recent follower of your blog and I love your recipes. My last incredible meal was about 3 weeks ago. The love of my life, Michael, prepared Italian Roast Beef Sandwiches and homemade Giardiniera for our Saturday Family Night. It was SO GOOD, I didn’t want it to end! He cooked the pot roast in the crock pot for hours the day of so it was tender, juicy and so flavorful. He prepared the Giardiniera a day before so it had a great heat and flavor to it. Add some toasted bread and it was one incredible meal. He’s not afraid to experiment with flavors or spices so everything he makes is pretty fantastic!

Happy birthday! Everything in this giveaway is so so lovely.

I’m obsessed with food so every meal has potential to be incredible, but I guess I’d have to say at a fine dining restaurant in Jersey City called Satis for my brother’s birthday. My favorite part of the meal had to be the gelato sundae loaded with amazing toppings that could’ve easily served 12 people.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Pigeon Forge, TN and had dinner at the Applewood Farm Restaurant. My dinner consisted of apple fritters/apple butter, chicken & dumplings, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, (all small individual servings) vegetable and a dessert. The chicken & dumplings, fritters, and chicken pot pie were out of this world. The fried chicken was good but sort of overlooked because of the other items.

I went out with my in-laws and husband to a local eatery called Revel in Seattle, WA. We are huge on supporting the local economy and going places that embrace sustainable, organic culture. This restaurant is killer and not only do they have the most amazing craft cocktails for pre-gaming your dinner, they have an appetizer menu that will knock your socks off that’s titled “From the Grill” and you get to choose your portion size with their choice of meat for the week. We indulged in 8 different cuts of pork that had just come from their deck grill (which you can sit next to outside in one of their dining/firepit areas-how cool is that?) and we were in heaven. We also added the grilled veggie plate for seasonal deliciousness to accompany the savory meats. Next we all chose entrees from their seasonal menu and we dined family style as is suggested by the chef that was working in the open kitchen style concept in the middle of the restaurant. He stopped by our table and chatted us up, only to find out that he had gone to culinary school in our hometown of Portland, OR! Overall a wonderful experience and we plan on taking everyone we know back there!

Awesome giveaway I love all of the cute-ness! <3

First: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It’s your day — do what you want, and don’t apologize for ANYthing today!

My latest wonderful adventure in dining was on MY birthday in July. My husband and a wonderful friend of ours went to Peohe’s restaurant in Coronado. It’s right across the bay from downtown San Diego. Lovely view. Amazing food — I had lobster bisque that was silky smooth with delish chunks of sweet lobster meat, followed by shrimp cocktail in their house-made cocktail sauce (yum!), and then I had bacon-wrapped scallops with the most delightful potato pancakes. A bottle of crisp cold pino grigio, and all was right in my world. Thanks for the chance to win the wonderful stuff! I will (for sure) be visiting Copperpeace for gift ideas for the holidays!!

If you ever find yourself in Rcckland, ME, make it your absolute priority to have dinner at Primo. I was recently there and enjoyed the most amazing meal. This restaurant takes farm-to-table to a whole new level: the farm is actually in the backyard. Most of the ingredients in the dishes served are grown or raised literally feet away from the kitchen by the chef’s husband, and you can tell how much love they put in their food in every bite. I had the most amazing mushroom pasta (homemade noodles, of course), burata with heirloom tomatoes, and a cheese plate for dessert that made me want to move to Maine just so this restaurant could be down the street.

The most incredible meal I’ve had recently was September 22nd 2012. The story begins in May, when we bought a baby Boer billygoat at the local livestock sale barn. We raised the goat, along with 3 sheep, though the summer on our small Iowa acreage. My husband, an avid outdoorsman and aspiring butcher, humanely butchered the goat. We had a party for several dozen of our friends and neighbors, and it was really incredible! I turned our pasture-raised goat into roasted goat carnitas, and we ALL tried something new (cabrito!). The goat tacos were delicious, as were the chips and homemade salsa, baked polenta with homegrown chiles, and the spice cake with cream cheese frosting. We had home-brewed hard apple cider to make it a real party! It was a real harvest feast and one we will remember for years to come.

this goes hands down to the andouille sausage, oven-roasted chicken, and okra gumbo with a side of cheddar cheese and jalepeno cornbread topped with orange marmalade butter (dat’s right!). this was the first time i made a homemade roux (something seemingly shocking being a native of Louisiana), and it turned out great. as my friend put it best “stir it till it’s the color of rihanna”. thanks for that tip, it tasted just as good if not better than rihanna 😉

The last amazing meal I had was MY birthday dinner (on Oct. 2) that my mom made for me. Salmon, tomato/basil salad, olive bread and garlic mashed potatoes. With a delicious cab and followed up by birthday cake – lemon poppyseed with strawberries. It was heavenly. And eaten at the same kitchen table where I grew up eating dinner every night.

My last amazing meal had to have been the night my fiancé and I had artichokes (that we grew at our farm) with homemade garlic aoli (garlic from our farm, eggs from our farmer friend). It was followed by a BLT made with my homemade light wheat bread, tomatoes from our farm, lettuce also from our farm, and bacon from another local farm. We gulped it down with my fiancé’s IPA homebrew. I just remember thinking how much tastier it was because we had such a connection to everything we put in our mouth. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Anyway, hope you have a wonderful birthday and a great year!

The last truly incredible meal I had was on a family vacation to Las Vegas, at the Tao restaurant. Not only was my orange chicken the most perfectly prepared chicken I’d ever had (crisp, clean and fresh flavors, no grease whatsoever), but I also sampled some of my wife’s sword-fish and was blown away. This coming from a person who dislikes 95% of the seafood family. I love good food, but am also cheap when it comes down to it, and there is very little I will say is worth it if the prices are too high. Spent over $100 (has to be an exceptional meal for me to feel okay about spending around $40…) and it was worth every single penny. Left there wishing I was rich and lived in Vegas so I could afford to eat there all the time.

I just graduated from college, so, my meals haven’t exactly been the most lavish in the world. Instead I’ve come to love what makes the meal, and I have to say it’s always incredible when my boyfriend and I cook together – it makes the food so much better! Kind of like how your homegrown vegetables are better than store bought – maybe? Anyways, we make pizza together, and we make pizza every few weeks, and slowly the toppings are getting more adventurous – and more incredible!

my last incredible meal was a three course meal my friend cooked for my friends and I last year, after our college finals week.
for the appetizer he wrapped a ricotta chive mixture in bacon on a bed of arugula and caramelized onions on top of toasted baguette slices. the main course was a wild mushroom risotto — i normally dislike mushrooms, but i ended up eating seconds. the dessert was cinnamon pumpkin bread pudding with vanilla ice cream.
all with a little red wine.
it was a good night :)

My last incredible meal was in August. I was in Honduras on a missions trip and one of the meals we had were stuffed nachos (with beans, guacamole, salsa and rice). It sounds simple and not that incredible but was there was something different about beans that has stuck with me ever since. I don’t know what’s so special but I guess they were on the sweet side and I’ve never tasted anything like that before – so good! It kind of makes me think that Honduran food is just delicious.

Whoa there. I’ll bet you never know how many people love your blog until you have a giveaway, huh. :) good luck picking a winner.
Anyway, I suppose its pretty selfish if I say the best meal I’ve had recently was something I cooked myself? Yeah? Okay. Well, it was. And what I had was marinated, pan-fried swai fish tacos with homemade chunky salsa, freshly chopped. When I mention it, I’m amazed at how many of my friends have never had fish tacos, and never want to. Honestly, I think these are one of the best fish meals I can cook, and they’re not even terribly fattening, considering how much flavour explodes on your tongue with every juicy, spicy bite. All-around win, right?

The last incredible meal I had was a ladies’ birthday tea party! AND it was how I discovered your blog!!! We started actually with champagne to toast the birthday girl. Then we had salmon with goat cheese on mini dark toasts. We then sat down with our teas (in the most darling tea cups you have ever seen) and had luncheon with tea sandwiches and sweet bread with lemon curd. Finally, we had a pink birthday cake (it was CUTE) and meringues, my favorite being the Earl Grey flavor … everything was
a) home made
b) delicious
c) cute!
Happy birthday!!!

I’ve been nursing a terrible cold for the last few days and haven’t eaten much lately. Tonight I had a craving for comfort food and this is what I came up with – toast and hot chocolate. When you are feeling sick – on a cold and rainy evening – warm toast can be better than a steak dinner!

The most memorable meal I’ve had recently was at A.Q. In San Francisco. I chose the BBQ pork which came two ways, a compressed piece of (fatty, juicy) pork belly and a perfect slice of pork shoulder, which lay over a bed of salty shelling beans and tuscan kale, with a dusting of ground mustard ash and dollop of cornbread. A dollop of cornbread? Yep, you read that right. The baked cornbread was blended with cream and dolloped on the plate as an incredible surprise to your palate. Honestly, I don’t think I shared a bite of this meal – it was that good (ok, maybe one…). Then desert came. A play on a Girl Scout Samoa cookie, a thick slice of chocolate mousse was perched atop a smear of caramel and freckled with coconut brittle. I thought I died and went to heaven.

Celebrating my friend/roommates 21st birthday in brooklyn!
Visited brooklyn for an evening, where there is room in the streets! we love it! Had a great dinner at this small place called the grocery…started with chilled corn soup that was a serious OMG explosion that rocked my world because i could eat corn all year, goat cheese ravioli with beets, fried squash blossoms that were to die for, fried cauliflower, risotto (with more corn!), grilled shrimp that the chef told us he brought back from his vacation in North Carolina (whether the story was true or not we were totally into it), lamb ragu, duck breast, then chocolate fig cake, gingerbread pudding and apple cobbler. then we went to this wine place and had cold spiced wine with LOTS of cheese. needless to say we were full and broke at the end of the night. this is a rare experience for college students to entirely indulge in a meal like this but we loved every second of it!

The soup is simple and pretty straight forward, no 15 ingredients ;o) stuff. But to top it off nicely I pan fried a few dried figs and drizzled them on top of a spoonful of sour cream which melted nicely away in the warm soup.

The last incredible meal I experienced was last evening when I treated my boyfriend to dinner at Table 52 in Chicago to celebrate his birthday (also October 10!). We started the meal with warm, buttery goat cheese biscuits, then split a flavor-filled kale, brussel sprout, fig, pancetta pecan salad. The birthday boy opted for their signature pistachio crusted chicken, served over a bed spicy Asian lo mein. Having heard great things, I decided on the harvest pizza topped with turkey, carmelized onions and currants. The sides dishes were irresistible and true highlights of the meal: tender brown sugar glazed sweet potatoes and an oozing castiron skillet of southern Mac & cheese. Finish it off with a thick spice of pecan pie ala mode and a bottle of white, it was a birthday celebration to remember.

Happy birthday to you!

The last incredible meal I had was at a seafood restaurant in Chicago a few weeks ago. This was my first foray into raw oysters and let me tell you, I FELL IN LOVE that night. They were served with a citrusy vinaigrette and were amazing. We also indulged in some lobster mac & cheese, clam chowder, clam bake with succulent sausage, fried oyster sliders, and finished it off with the most scrumptious salted caramel tart topped with bananas foster. (drooling as I type this…)

Awesome Italian wine and a charcuterie plate followed by a killer french press with my husband on the lawn of a gorgeous summer night’s orchestra performance. As full time, nontraditional students, those moments are far and few between, but always savored. Enjoy your birthday, Cuteface!

Beet Risotto with goat cheese & walnuts, simply amazing. The tiny lounge in Chicago is always filled with some amazing eats but oh the beet risotto was the perfect fall meal and like nothing I’ve ever tasted.

Hope you had a wonderful birthday!

The last amazing meal I had was for my friend Laurel’s birthday…she requested surf and turf and her parents decided to take that in an asian direction. Garlic rubbed shrimp with sriracha mayo, beef hong kong, jasmine rice, fresh greens with a thai peanut dressing…all so good! Grandma Louise made flourless chocolate cake with bourbon whipped cream for dessert. After dinner, we sat out on the deck, drank scotch and listened to jazz. It was a perfect night with my best friends.

In Toronto there is a burger place called Burger’s Priest and it is incredible! The priest burger is my favourite… An amazingly seasoned, perfectly cooked burger with a mushroom that is stuffed with cheese and then fried on the top… and fries. Need I say more?

Happy birthday!
There is the tiniest Thai restaurant in my hometown. My husband and I were just there and I was so disappointed that they took this awesome tofu salad off the menu. I mentioned my sadness to our server who said, “You really liked it? I’ll tell my Mom to make it!” Then she yelled something in Thai and this adorable dumpling of a woman shot her head out from the kitchen, smiled wide at me and said, “You like? Okay!” I guess its just our server, her Mom and her aunt making a really fantastic go at a restaurant. I got my tofu salad, and an amazing dinner. (I had Penang curry with tofu…my husband had it with Salmon and said it was ridiculously good.)
LIBRA POWER!

My last incredible meal was, if I do say so myself (and I do!), the slow-cooked pork loin roast with kale, tomato, and garbanzo beans I made two nights ago for family dinner. Is there anything better than slow-cooked pork? Seriously, after eating our portions for dinner, there was a small amount of the pork left over, which we fought over for quesadillas last night. Sadly, I didn’t get any of it on my quesadilla, as I allowed my daughters to have it instead (the sacrifices mothers make).

The Tiny Food Party sounds very up my alley. I’ll have to see if I can track it down.

The last incredible meal I had was on Tuesday night. After finishing packing up to go away for work (again :( ) Mr and I were both ravenous and tired. It was way too late to cook. So we headed out to our favorite pho hotspot (that just happens to also be open late night) and had fried siopao and pho. It was a fantastic way to spend some of our last hours together. Luckily he’s going to be back home soon.

The last incredible meal that I had was actually last night. I made steamed zuchinni, it was so good it didn’t need any seasoning. Then I made the Pioneer Woman’s crash potatos with my Mom’s recipe of chili on top. With some red onion & parm cheese to top it all of. So good!

The last incredible meal I had was a delicious chicken spinach orzo soup my mom made for me last week. Since I moved out recently, my mom tends to cook me random meals to remind me what I’m missing out on. Last week was this soup, which was absolutely incredible and needed since I was sick. Sadly, I didn’t get to enjoy it at home with my mom, but when I reheated the soup the next day at work I was instantly taken back to my childhood. It was one of the best soups I’ve had in a while. Thanks mom! : )

We had a lovely birthday party for my son who turned 6! He loves fishing so I made him a salmon cake! He wanted it to be red when it was cut into so I made it a “huckleberry” red velvet cake. I omitted the chocolate and vanilla since he has friends with allergies so used frozen huckleberries and mint extract. It was cut like a curved shape of a fish and frosted it with green frosting!

I was in L.A. for Memorial Day weekend, and ate with a couple friends at Animal in Hollywood. We went through about 2/3 of the menu to sample everything, and it all added up to the best meal I’ve ever had. My favorites were the broccolini with crispy salmon skins (this is from a lifelong broccoli hater) and bone marrow. From drinks, appetizers, desserts and service, it was FANTASTIC. Best part? My friend’s mom picked up the tab :)

The last incredible meal was a turkey dinner made by my college’s cafeteria. My judgement of “incredible” food is slightly skewed by my typical meals, which are less than impressive most days since I have to rely upon the cafeteria. However, when they do turkey dinner nights, they do them right! Tender turkey breast, tasty stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and corn and peas. It made my week :)

The last incredible meal I had was cooked by my good friend Oscar Gamino as a going away dinner. I recently turned 30, went a little crazy ;), and decided to spontaneously move from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Why not?! Oscar is an amazing cook and wanted to make me a farewell dinner. We started with prawns wrapped in bacon and two different types of queso fresco (which he made himself)…one coated in cilantro and one in cayenne. For the main coarse we had pork adobo (which cooked all day and was fall apart amazing) and chiles en nogada (a traditional dish from where Oscar is from, Mexico City). The chiles were to die for! Stuffed with beef, plantain, raisins, and more and then topped with a walnut cream sauce and fresh pomegranate seeds. Sounds unusual, but it was seriously great. I brought dessert by request… creme brûlée. I probably gained 5 lbs at that meal and it was worth every bit.

My husband and I had a really fabulous meal together at Rosetta’s (http://rosettaskitchen.com/), one of our very favorite local spots in Asheville. It’s not fancy and it’s not new, but it’s magic every time. We like to share many things. This time I think we had a large Mountain, because you have to get it just for the sauce, and barbecued tempeh and coconut curry. Then we shared a hunk of toasted cornbread for dessert. Divine.

The last great meal I had was because of the company, not just the food. Last night we had a get together of everyone that graduated but is still living in the Seattle area. It was the epitome of college living. We went to a friend’s house and couldn’t find pans, so we cooked chilis and chicken in a wok for tacos. Had amazing spanish rice the way my friend’s abuelita cooks it (she browns the rice with oil before cooking it!). Everything was topped off with avocados and squeezed lime. Even better–my friend still hasn’t purchased a dining room table, so we all sat on the floor drinking beer and eating our food. Not to mention, we had to fend off kittens from sticking their heads in our plates. So cute! =)
And of course there’s dessert! Ben & Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide ice cream. It’s Irish cream flavor with chocolate in it. So good! In other words, we ate waaay too much but it was great.

P.S.: Happy belated birthday! I adore your blog. I swear your mocha popsicles got me through classes this summer. Coffee in popsicle form is genius.

A couple of weeks ago, it was my boyfriend of a year’s birthday. I made him dinner. Just recently he has fell in love with Reuben sandwiches, so that’s exactly what I made. I am a bit of an inexperienced cook but everyone found it delicious. The wonderful corned beef mixed with the distinct taste and texture of sauerkraut atop the warm toasty rye bread, but can’t forget the melty cheese! And I paired it with his favorite beer, Guinness. But to stick to the whole somewhat “Irish” theme, I found this recipe and made Guinness cupcakes. They were fabulous because the beer enhanced the flavor of the chocolate and locking in the moistness!

My last incredible ‘meal’ was on my holiday last week – my first proper holiday since childhood, and first trip ever with my boyfriend. We went to Noosa – a gorgeous beach-y area in Queensland, Australia. We hiked through rain forests. We took a nap in the squishy soft bit where the water laps the sand. We swam with turtles. And, in a fantastic move (if I do say so myself), we ordered an assortment of ice cream flavours from a van parked by the beach, flopped down on the sand, devoured our buffet, and called it breakfast.

The last incredible meal I had is a simple favorite- french’s onion chicken, broccoli, and rice a roni. Hey, I work 40 hours a week and save the fancy meals for the weekend!

the last incredible meal was nothing too special–chicken and green beans–but was oh so wonderful because it was the first homecooked meal i’ve had in a while :)

We just got back from Nevis and had the most incredible seafood and BBQ cookout on the beach. Paired with some great wine and awesome dessert. It was amazing!

The most incredible/memorable/enjoyable/happiest meal of my life is that when I surprise my wife with a delicious special roasted chicken on our 1st anniversary as married couple and she really loves it. <3

The last incredible meal i had was just chinese takeout. Even though, it may not be considered as the most incredible meal, i really enjoyed eating it. You shoudl really try going to the restaurant Congee when your in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Some dishes i had were fried rice noodle with beef and black bean sauce, yanchow fried rice, kung pao chicken.
