Meet Amelia

in Adventures

My dream has come true. I’m now the official dog mama to a baby corgi named Amelia.

That’s right, Amelia…like Amelia Bedelia. Amelia is a really pretty name–it’s child-worthy, actually–but dude, did I loooove those books as a kid.

Amelia Bedelia did her housekeeping duties so literally, like that time she put sponges into a sponge cake. And this baby corgi is literally the cutest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on. The name fits.

When I first saw her, I cried. I’m guessing it was one part charming and one part terrifying. There was just so much raw Adrianna-LOVES-corgis-emotion running through my lil’ body that I just couldn’t help it.

This blog post is all about her first walk. I was an epic one. (Not really.) And I’d like to introduce you two…

The thing about puppies that you don’t realize is that they’re like babies. BIG babies.

They need constant attention, they sleep in only 3-4 hour increments and they cry whenever they’re confused.

Amelia is incredibly confused about reflections. The mirror is her enemy!

Amelia is also confused with collars and walking in an orderly fashion.

She’d much rather walk in a jig-jag pattern sans order.

She also doesn’t understand why she can’t chew my shoe laces as she’s walks down the street.

That would be an ideal situation for her!

This is her “I think walking a lot is stupid” face. She’s tired and lazy and wants to take a break.

So she does. And looks ridiculously cute while doing so.

We called her name excitedly, tugged and pulled her collar with no luck. Amelia was tired, man. She was over it. So she got her way and was carried the rest of the way home.

I have to say, 2012 was one of the best years yet. It was filled with some challenges, for sure, but it also was filled with so much food, friends, Joshua and now, Amelia.

I’ve never been so excited for the future.

Wishing you all the very best in 2013. Thank you so much for being here. I appreciate you!

Adrianna January 2, 2013 at 8:34 am

Right? What’s funny is I’ve always loved corgis because they’re kind of ugly, but this puppy is ugly in NO WAY.

Amy (@amykhaste) January 2, 2013 at 6:10 am

My name is Amelia and I want a corgi more than any other puppy, so this post pretty much killed me. Have fun with her!

Adrianna January 2, 2013 at 8:16 am

Aw yay! Haha. I’ve wanted a corgi (and any puppy, really) for, like, 10 years. Dream come true. And thank you!

Kayla January 2, 2013 at 8:07 am

She’s so cute! I love her name, and our little puppy was just like that with the walking in zig zags, lol too excited to walk straight! Hehe! I can’t wait to see more photos! Congratulations on your new addition :) and Happy 2013!

Kaitlin Welch January 2, 2013 at 9:18 am

How cute!! You are so right about puppies being babies! I have a samoyed (featured here on my blog: ChickadeeSays If you want to check her out) that is about a year and a half and she acts JUST like a toddler!

Good luck on being a new dog mom! You’ll love it!

xx Kait

[And that last photo of Joshua carrying her... auuuuughhh...]

Adrianna January 2, 2013 at 12:11 pm

That photo is now my desktop photo. I can’t deal. It’s CRAZY!

Solaera January 2, 2013 at 12:10 pm

Aw! I loved Amelia Bedelia as a kid! She was right up there with Ramona the Pest. Your puppy is so adorbs, but so are you! I love your outfit. Cheers.

Adrianna January 2, 2013 at 12:11 pm

Oh Romona! I loved her. Thanks, Solaera! xo

Loretta | A Finn In The Kitchen January 2, 2013 at 12:44 pm

She’s a doll! We almost named our daughter Amelia, so I love the name!

Jennifer January 2, 2013 at 1:06 pm

Ahh! So adorable! I can’t decide what’s cuter — her face and floppy ear, or her irresistible chubby paws…congrats!

joelle (on a pink typewriter) January 2, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Adorable, and equally adorable name! Your joy just exudes out of this blog post – love it! I desperately want a puppy and plan on naming it peanut butter. :)

a farmer in the dell January 2, 2013 at 1:41 pm

SO stinking cute! Congrats!

Weezie January 2, 2013 at 1:46 pm

WHAT A MUNCHKIN. How is she even real.

Also, fair warning, my darlin and I adopted a two-ish year old rescue border collie/chow mix in spring ’09 and TO THIS DAY, even at 6 years old with three walks daily and successfully learning LOTS of other concepts (including high-five, duh), Radley can’t walk in a straight line.

Maggie January 2, 2013 at 3:29 pm

Amelia definitely needs to make regular appearances in the blog. Being gone 11 hours a day definitely has its downsides (no puppies in my life! sad day). She’s just precious and looks like an excellent snuggler! Congrats!!

Pamela January 2, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Adorable! My pup is a 6-year-old Scottish Terrier – she cried constantly when I got her home and chewed on everything in sight. I tried all the usual tricks to calm her crying, and the only thing that worked well was running the dryer on a fluff/no-heat cycle at bedtime. As for chewing, I tried the strongest bitter spray I could find (supposedly for horses), and she just walked along behind me and licked it up. Thankfully she grew out of it.

Enjoy Amelia!

Adrianna January 3, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Omygoodness! Haha. That is amazing. Luckily Amelia is a little better than that but for 2 hours every day she turns into devil corgi. It’s scary!

tina January 3, 2013 at 6:41 am

She’s so stinkin’ adorbs!!! and can we talk about those paws?? Congrats dog mama!! what a great way to kick off the new year! happy 2013!

whitney January 3, 2013 at 8:44 am

ahhhhh!!!!! AMELIA. in love. so happy for you and your puppy love. i wanna meet her! a SQIRL date is in order.

Adrianna January 3, 2013 at 8:47 am

Dude! Let’s do it. Aren’t you getting a puppy soon? Who was the little black-haired fella you posted on Insta a few weeks ago?

Natasha McEachron January 3, 2013 at 10:48 am

Awww a furry ball of cuteness. Great way to kick off the New Year!

dervla @ The Curator January 3, 2013 at 12:21 pm

ahhhh! She’s so beautiful, and i love her name. And those paws are gigantic! Maybe she’ll be a giant corgi?! ;-) happy new year, can’t wait to see what 2013 brings for all of us.

Adrianna January 3, 2013 at 2:34 pm

I kind of think she might grow into being a big corgi, which is fun and scares me at the same time. Totally agree. I think 2013 is gonna be a good one!

Emily @ She Makes and Bakes January 4, 2013 at 7:55 am

OMG. She is the cutest thing ever!! And I love the name!! Puppies and collars/leashes is a hilarious thing. My King Charles Spaniel did the same thing the first time he had one on.

Carla January 4, 2013 at 10:12 am

CUTEST puppy ever! I can see why you cried, she totally melted my heart at first sight!

Christine January 4, 2013 at 7:05 pm

That last photo is just a killer…SO CUTE! After 30 years of Siberian Huskies all of whom I loved to pieces, I finally got my beloved Pembroke from a horrid shelter in LA. He was 3 or so they guessed. He’s the best thing on earth and makes me laugh and smile constantly. Congratulations on your excellent choice of a pup. Love Ms. A’s name! My Mr. is called Blue ’cause he’s red (apparently Australians refer to redheads as blue or blues), per my Aussie pal. Enjoy the ensuing shenanigans! :)

Alice January 5, 2013 at 4:36 pm

Hi! I come to your blog a lot, looking for recipes and ideas and stopping by today I wasn’t expecting this! She is soooo cute! I am really happy for you :)

cindy January 6, 2013 at 7:51 am

ahhh! baby puppy Amelia! congrats Mama!

Alessandra January 6, 2013 at 2:21 pm

Amelia is the best. My corgie did the same- they hate walking. But if you train them by walking with them, holding the leash really close to your side, they start walking with you. Now my dog tugs the leash!

Sarah January 9, 2013 at 4:51 pm

Love, love, love your new corgi! I’ve always been a huge fan, but we were blessed to find a random little mutt at the pound last Christmas and we’re obsessed with her. Having a puppy is tough work and it *is* just like having a baby, although I have yet a “real” child, but I can imagine. I’m so happy for you and your new addition to the family!

Adrianna January 10, 2013 at 8:28 am

Having a puppy has made me more scared about having a child. SO MUCH WORK. Hope you’re cute, little mutt is doing well–I love mutts!

Evi January 18, 2013 at 2:12 pm

Awww, so cute! Love the name! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures with the puppy!

Camille January 22, 2013 at 11:08 pm

My precious little kitty is named Amelia! It must be a good luck name, because your pup and my cat are surely the cutest animals to have ever been born. (This is not a delusional parental feeling, right?) If I ever see you walking her in LA I am going to squeeeeeel!

Yin April 14, 2013 at 5:37 am

OMG! Amelia is possibly the cutest lil pup I’ve ever set eyes on. Plus your description of her is way adorable! She looks so cosy in that last photo. haha. Thanks for sharing! x

Angela April 15, 2013 at 1:36 pm

Just discovered you blog!! I was already dying over your posts and then I read that you have a corgi… now you are my new favorite!! I have had my little corgi, Callie, for 12 years now. Hope your time with Amelia will be as long and as full of love as mine has been with Callie!

Adrianna Adarme April 15, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Omygoodness. That’s so awesome. What a pretty name. Amelia is a lot older now (she’s 6 months) and she’s the raddest thing to ever have come into my life.

flaca April 30, 2013 at 3:25 pm

Susan Johnson January 9, 2014 at 2:44 pm

OMG!!! She is precious! I have grown up with corgis and just had to put my gorgeous and special soul, Tyler down b/c he had ALS (rare in Corgis!)
Where did you find Miss Amelia? I’m in the search for a new pup.

Bekah March 19, 2014 at 3:52 pm

I stumbled across your website from pinterest, looking at your lemon pizza. Now I have seen the cutest corgi ever and will be a devoted follower. I love lemons and corgis! PS it is my dream to be a corgi mamma one day.

Adrianna Adarme March 19, 2014 at 4:02 pm

HAHA she’s one part cute, one part terror. She’s much bigger now (almost a year and a half), but I love looking at these pictures of her. Hope you become a corgi mama one day, it’s so much fun. Glad you found me! xo

Bekah June 13, 2014 at 6:28 pm

I finally got my corgi puppy!!! She’s 9 weeks old and her name is Rory, she’s the cutest thing! Im so happy I could burst, shes lazy like Amelia too lol. Keep posting about Amelia!

Adrianna Adarme June 13, 2014 at 9:40 pm
