Sometimes I just get the urge for crazy and drastic change. Like, maybe chopping my hair all off and having a pixie cut like Michelle Williams or marching into Barney’s and buying a dream bag or moving to a new city where I know no one.
Dreaming about moving to a new city has been doing it for me lately. I’ve been thinking about how awesome it would be to eat in new-to-me restaurants, visit new parks, museums and just create a whole new routine for life. And even the prospect of making new friends in this very new town makes me really excited. Of course Amelia and my dude would come along, too. I have a feeling that Amelia would aide greatly in the whole making new friends department.
This is probably a pipe-dream. I mean, I love Los Angeles, but I’ve been a-dreamin’ lately, hard. And it’s fun.
I try to be a good person on the daily. When I’m going into the coffee shop, I always hold the door for the person behind me. I smile at strangers. I smile at cute babies…and even more at cute doggies. I give people the benefit of the doubt. I call my mama on the regular. I try to tell the truth even when it sucks. I eat my vegetables and I like it.
So, if all that doesn’t work and I’m sent to hell at the end, I guarantee it’ll look like a mall on Black Friday. There will be people and shopping carts everywhere. Babies will be crying (because they know what’s up!). There might even be a few lil’ people toppling over each other fighting over some game console I’ve never heard of. People will be outside in tents camping to get the best deal on a TV. It will look a lot like the weekend of Thanksgiving. That’s what my hell is.
My idea of heaven is cooking soup in colorful socks. What? Yes. Maybe even Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas will be blaring in the background. Cooking soup and making snacks! It’s my favorite pastime. This lil’ tartine is a perfect snack/breakfast/lunch meal.
Wasn’t 4th of July kind of a weirdo this year? I mean, in the middle of the week? How awkward. No long weekend. No weekend getaways. I wonder if 4th of July feels a little weird about itself.
Or maybe it’s all sorts of proud that it gave people an awesome little mid-week break. Who knows! I spent the good part of the morning in my pjs putting brown butter and blueberries in cookies so, for me, it was kind of perfect.
I’ve now realized that brown butter very rarely doesn’t have a place in edible things. It never fails at making things better. Never. I think we should talk about these cookies. I love them…a lot.
There are times when I share recipes with you that I know very good and well require multiple steps (hello ding dongs!), a few ingredients that are a little pricey (wassup Arroz con Pollo), and some technique that might be unfamiliar (heeyyy French Omelet). Challenges are cool, but sometimes you just want something to be easy, delicious, brainless. I get it. This dish costs around $10 and takes maybe, like, 15 minutes to whip up. Too easy!
Valentine’s Day lands on a Tuesday this year, which means some of you might be coming home from work and you might be a little tired. This is what you should make. This is it!
On another note, if you’re a single lady on Valentine’s Day this year, you should make this too. I mean, I ate it all by myself while standing over the stove, so I dunno, there’s no shame.
And honestly, if you want to take to the comments to tell me how much you hate Valentine’s Day that’s cool, too. I’m here to support you…
I have another potato with cheese (and cheese) and butter recipe for you.
I swear I’m not trying to kill you; it’s just I like cheese.
I kinda figure it’s like math…you know, two negatives make a positive, OR depending on your life perspective, two positives make a big gigantic cheesy, calorie-filled positive. I consider myself a super optimissitc person, so I’ll go with the latter.
If you are too, then hop over to PW’s Tasty Kitchen blog where I did a guest blogging situation. You’ll find: step-by-step pictures, the recipe and me waxing poetic about cheese and butter. You know, THE USUAL!!!
P.S. I’ll post a recipe of some salad soon. Or not.
Abby emailed me a few weeks ago requesting a recipe that could be made in the microwave. You see…Abby is shacking it up in a dorm this year with only two kitchey-type tools at her disposal: a microwave and a mini-fridge. And since she wants to spend her money on more important things like booze, shoes textbooks, she wanted it to be budget friendly.
No biggie, Abby; I got you, gurrrrl!
Meet the Twice Baked Potatoes. They meet the criteria, for sure. They’re perfect for fallish, chilly weather; they take barely any effort/money; and they can be made in either a microwave OR oven. #thricebingo
I made ’em two ways: decadent and amazing (bacon, cheddar, jalapenos, sour cream) and healthy and good (yogurt, chives, zucchini).
I’m not even gonna pretend the healthy way tastes better. It just doesn’t. BUT it is healthier …so there’s that.
You read fashion blogs, right? My new fashion blog obsession is Into the Gloss, which interviews top industry insider’s (editors, models, photographers) about their favorite beauty buys. My love for lotions, lip stains, blushes surpasses my adoration for clothes.
Fact: If I’m really bored, I go to Sephora and spend hours upon hours trying stuff on, and leaving with, like, one thing (and ten samples). I like samples. I have an issue with commitment.
One day soon, I want us all to be girls and talk about beauty products…I’ll make something like popsicles or something just as an excuse to discuss. Would you dig that?
On Into the Gloss there were a few women that mentioned getting stuff like Chanel “C’s,” daisies, and cross-bones airbrushed onto their nails.
I was kind of intrigued, and even more intrigued when I found out the place (CT Nails–ask for Peter) was within walking distance to my place. Easy is good. I had no interest in the typical stuff, and thought it’d be cute/weird to get cupcakes!
And that’s what I did…with a cherry on top.
Next on the list to be airbrushed? Bacon, snow cones and maybe a stick of butter. Would that be strange? Yes. Awesome? Yes.
